Police in Wandegeya is holding a number of youths for buying old car tires, which they are allegedly intending to use in demos in Kampala.
They were arrested yesterday, according to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesman Luke Owoyesigyire.
“Wandegeya Police has arrested Robin Wabulembo and group on information that they were buying old tyres with intent to burn, block major city roads & junctions following the launch of ‘Tubalemese Campaign’ by Rtd. Dr. Col. Kizza Besigye and his counterparts,” said Owoyesigyire.
Wabulembo was previously arrested last year for dropping yellow pigs at Makerere University.
According to the police publicist, they were caught buying the used car tyres in Katanga slums at a rate of Shs2000 each.
Robbin has also been having a pending criminal file at Wandegeya Police Station for allegedly dropping pigs at Makerere University last year, he said.
This comes after Dr. Kizza Besigye launched “Tubalemese” campaign to protest the recently signed amendment on the removal after the presidential age limit in the constitution.
Besigye, during the launch, also said that all Ugandans should confront the 317 Judas (MPs), boycott their businesses, protect their land and ensure that LC1 elections are conducted free and fairly.
Lukas Oweyesigire told ChimpReports that the suspects were planning to burn the tires from major roads, junctions and roundabouts in the city center with the aim of disrupting business in the central Business District.
“They were planning to burn the tires from round abouts and streets in Kampala,” said Owoyesigyire.
“We therefore call upon members of the public to be vigilant and report promptly any suspicious person or activity that could disrupt traffic and the peace of Ugandans as they conduct their daily businesses in Kampala City.”
